Long gone are the days when studios waited to see how the first instalment of a hoped-for franchise did before considering work on the next; now it’s all feeding the machine before the initial film is even in cinemas. In the case of **The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones **(not due to hit here until August), that also includes developing a prequel.
Yes, Constantin Film, which owns the rights to Cassandra Clare’s full range of **Mortal Instruments **novels, has put actress/writer Stephanie Sanditz to the task of adapting Clare’s spin-off prequel Infernal Devices.
While the first Instruments film will see present-day heroine Clary Fray (Lily Collins) discovering the hidden world of half-angel demon hunters and her vital role in it, Devices is set in Victorian England and sees a different girl set on a journey of self-discovery. Many of the characters in Devices are ancestors of people we’ll meet in Instruments, so it all ties together.
The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones also features Jamie Campbell-Bower, Lena Headey, Aidan Turner, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jared Harris and will be out here on August 23. Check out the trailer below. Anyone out there excited already at the prospect of a prequel?
