Sunday night was the Writers Guild of America awards, handed out by Writers Guild of America, East and the Writers Guild of America, West. Hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt and featuring a raft of political statements, the big awards of the night went to Moonlight (in a rare win over La La Land) and Arrival.
The sci-fi film took home the Adapted screenplay trophy for writer Eric Heisserer's work adapting Ted Chiang's short story. Moonlight's Original Screenplay win is perhaps more of a surprise, since it is considered an adaptation by the Oscars. Still, the wins for the movies means the race will be even tighter next week.
On the TV side, Donald Glover's Atlanta continued to do well, picking up two awards, and there was a win for BoJack Horseman and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. For the full list of winners, head to the WGA West site; and you can see the cinematic categories below.
