Nicole Kidman has signed on to star in Monte Carlo, a romantic comedy about three humdrum teachers who pose as wealthy women holidaying in the glitzy Monaco tourist resort/tax haven.
But if that weren’t A-listy enough for you, Kidman told Fox411 that Julia Roberts may be joining her as one of the teachers in the movie, which is based on Jules Bass’ novel, Headhunters. Which means that the budget may already be at least $40 million.
And if Roberts signs on, we’d expect to see another A-lister take the third role – thankfully director Tom Bezucha has already shown, with The Family Stone, that he can handle starry ensemble casts. And if any of the A-listers plays up, Kidman can always give them a piece of her mind – she’s also producing.
So, who will the third A-lister be, readers? Given that Kidman and Roberts are both nudging 40, they could see this as an opportunity to show the young bucks – the Hathaways, McAdams and Witherspoons of this world – that they’ve still got it, especially after Kidman’s last movie, The Invasion, tanked, and when you consider that Roberts is just returning after a baby-enforced sabbatical. So don’t be surprised to see someone in roughly the same age group sign on – Cameron Diaz? Drew Barrymore? Halle Berry?
Answers on a postcard, if you please. Send that postcard to Monte Carlo – we’ll do our best to go there to pick it up.
