Despite some mixed responses to preview screenings of Resident Evil, director Paul Anderson is pushing ahead with the sequel, Resident Evil: Nemesis, which may arrive as early as October 2003. Talking to ComingSoon, Anderson gave the latest update on the zombie sequel. "For the role of [central character] Jill Valentine, I carefully chose who I wanted to play her. At first I contacted Natasha Henstridge, but with her other projects she wanted to pursue, it was impossible to have her for the role. Mira Sorvino is next on my list. I think she resembles Jill a lot and would fit the role perfectly as well. I hope everything goes well, and she will say yes to our script." Based on the third in the series of popular PlayStation games, Resident Evil: Nemesis sees a new threat terrorising the protagonists in the form of lumbering zombie behemoth, The Nemesis. Both Milla Jovovich and Eric Mabius will return for the second film, which will take some significant departures from the linear nature of the game's narrative. "As far as the story goes, I can't reveal too much," said Anderson, "but I will say that Jill Valentine and Alice will never meet in the story. There will be two separate stories going on in the movie".
