For those keeping count, there are now roughly 13,768 movies in development as TV series. The latest comes, we’re un-shocked to learn, from NBC, which is one of several networks which has developed a real taste for shows based on films. The latest to join the list is 1980s Tom Hanks comedy **The Money Pit.

Boldly putting aside fears of TV critic headlines such as “NBC pours money into ‘Pit’” should the show fail, Universal Television and Amblin TV have struck a deal with rights holders DreamWorks to begin work on a pilot.

The show will follow the same concept as the movie, which saw Hanks and Shelley Long as a couple trying to get a foot on the property ladder by buying what seems like a dream home at a bargain price. Unfortunately, it turns out to be an absolute disaster zone, given to collapsing stairs, disastrous leaks and unsafe electrics - something that tests both their budget and their relationship. Given the longer TV story space, the series will also feature the couple navigating the choppy waters of modern romance as the house falls to bits. Metaphor? It remains to be seen.
