Ghostbusters isn't the only old Dan Aykroyd movie returning to the spotlight this year. It may not get quite the same impassioned response, but The Blues Brothers is also on its way back as an animated TV series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will skew towards a YA demographic and feature music, old and new, as Jake and Elwood Blues hit the road and mooch about in their hometown, Chicago. And, no, Illinois Nazis will not be welcome.

Aykroyd has co-created alongside John Belushi’s widow, Judy, and Saturday Night Live writer Anne Beatts. The trio also share executive-producer credits.

The Saturday Night Live connection is apt. That’s where the Belushi/Aykroyd blues and soul double-act was born, initially as an inspired pre-show warm-up act, then as a fully-fledged musical sketch, followed by an LP and, two years later, The Blues Brothers movie landed in cinemas.

"The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America,” elaborates Aykroyd, "and utilising all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement — and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich.”
