Welcome to the latest round of movies being pushed back in the wake of pandemic problems or studios getting cold feet over scheduling. The next two Mission: Impossible movies, which have been the target of several date switches, are on the move again, to slots in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Yes, while Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt can solve all manner of problems, (usually by putting himself in mortal danger), even he can't save this particular situation.
With Christopher McQuarrie writing and directing once again, Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 have been in production for months, though faced shooting delays when the pandemic broke out. The seventh movie in particular was shifted from July 2020 and December of that year, then to November 2021 and May this year before finally landing on 30 September this year. And now?
"After thoughtful consideration, Paramount Pictures and Skydance have decided to postpone the release dates for Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 in response to delays due to the ongoing pandemic. The new release dates will be July 14, 2023, and June 28, 2024, respectively. We look forward to providing moviegoers with an unparalleled theatrical experience," said Paramount in a statement.
For now, though, we can still expect to see Cruise back on our screens in Top Gun: Maverick, currently locked in for 27 May.
