There have been crazy rumours in the past few weeks about the casting for JJ Abrams' Mission: Impossible 3 (or M as it will henceforth be known for brevity's sake). Lindsay Lohan 'accidentally' let slip that she was in talks last week; then there were rumours that Tom Cruise's current squeeze, Katie Holmes, would join him in the cast. But now there are firm reports that Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Michelle Monaghan are in talks to join the cast. The project had previously cast Scarlett Johansson and Carrie-Anne Moss, back when Joe Carnahan was set to direct. But after the start date was delayed and Abrams was brought in, both ladies dropped out and the script was rewritten. It's no longer even clear if the same roles need to be filled. Monaghan is not yet a household name, having played a small role in The Bourne Supremacy and a recurring role in Boston Public, but that could be about to change. This summer, however, she has roles in Mr and Mrs Smith and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and George Clooney's Syriana, currently filming. So expect to get to know her before long
