Harvey says 'the director got robbed'

Super-producer Harvey Weinstein blames himself for **The Talented Mr. Ripley's **less-than-impressive Oscar nominations he tells this issue of Newsweek. Although the movie boasts a nomination for Jude Law in the Best Supporting Actor category, Harvey bemoans recognition for director **Anthony Minghella **and star Matt Damon.

Suffering from a bacterial infection, the man who has helped break the glass-ceiling for indie-pics - thanks to his aggressive marketing tactics - explained, "I was the captain of that ship and I was, unfortunately, convalescing in the hospital and at home when I should have been out there campaigning for it. ... I would have just made sure the right people saw the film. Even though the movie is a tremendous financial success, it is hard to motivate Academy people ... So I feel like Matt Damon the star and Anthony Minghella the director got robbed because I was away."
