As well as reinventing the epic wheel with the likes of The English Patient and Cold Mountain, Anthony Minghella has been quietly cultivating another contribution to Hollywood: his son, Max. The 19 year-old - who's so unknown that we had to use a picture of his dad instead - had already been noticed by executives after landing a role in the forthcoming Bee Season, but now he's signed on for high-profile roles in two very contrasting movies. First up, he'll take the lead in Terry Zwigoff's Art School Confidential, based on the Daniel Clowes graphic novel. He'll star opposite John Malkovich and Steve Buscemi as an art student who becomes a celebrity after being accused of murder. From there, he'll segue smoothly into Syriana, which stars George Clooney as real-life CIA operative, Robert Baer. Minghella will play his son. It's a wonderful opportunity for Minghella, whose previous notable achievements include studying at the National Youth Theatre, interviewing his dad's Cold Mountain star Charlie Hunnam for American magazine, Interview; and having Miramax's annual awards, The Max Awards, named after him. Now, after this, who knows? In a couple of years, Minghella family get-togethers might have two Oscar-winners standing around the barbecue...
