When the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe arrives, we should be meeting a bunch of new heroes – including the likes of Shang-Chi and The Eternals. But one fan favourite comics character who hasn’t yet been tapped for a screen adaptation is Ms. Marvel – specifically, the Kamala Khan incarnation. Like Peter Parker, she’s a friendly neighborhood superhero, protecting her local community in New Jersey with the help of her body-morphing powers, and juggling her school commitments and heroic feats. She’s also Marvel’s first Muslim hero.

Speaking to MTV News, writer-actor-comedian Mindy Kaling – currently starring in Late Night, which she also penned – revealed that she has been in contact with Marvel about Khan, and would ‘help in any way’ to get her onto the screen, big or small. “I think the people I’ve spoken to Marvel about it are so excited about the character and I think that they’re trying to figure out what to do with it,” she says. “I told them I would help in any way because I truly love her. They really seemed interested, and I think they will probably do something.”

Kaling added that the arrival of Disney+ could be an outlet for Khan, stating: “Now that there’s like this streaming service with them, it might be something like that, but I think they understand how much there is the excitement.”

Of course, that’s nothing concrete for now – but the fact that Ms. Marvel is even being talked about is tantalising news for fans of the beloved character. Considering the $1 billion box office for Captain Marvel, and Khan’s mentorship by Carol Danvers in the comics, it’s not a stretch to see this coming together in the MCU – here’s hoping Kaling can help it reach the screen.
