Currently enjoying a career boost thanks to the popularity of emotional harpoon series This Is Us, Milo Ventimiglia is taking that expanded clout and entering talks to star in a film that could prove just as much of a weep-fest. If the deal goes through, he'll star in The Art Of Racing In The Rain.
First picked up by Universal back in 2009, Garth Stein's bestseller concerns race car driver Denny Swift, and the lessons he picks up along life's highway. The twist is that those lessons are narrated to us and filtered by his dog, Enzo. Back then, it was to have starred Patrick Dempsey, who has since dropped out of the lead but remains behind the scenes with a producing credit.
And the film has since changed studio hands too – after Disney grabbed then dropped the rights, Fox 2000 will now produce it, hiring Goodbye Christopher Robin director Simon Curtis to call the shots.
Alongside his TV duties, Ventimiglia will be seen on the big screen in romantic comedy Second Act, which has yet to set a UK release.
