Chapters are big in Hollywood right now. John Wick is getting a 'Chapter 2' and Insidious is inching towards 'Chapter 4'. Before either of them, though, comes Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Judging by these new stills, it has nothing good in store for Milla Jovovich's Alice. She'd be used to that by now, mind you.

The movie's set-up has Alice returning back to Raccoon City after all the sinister shenanigans in Washington. Confronting and defeating the terrors of the Umbrella Corporation, as well as the kind of undead-ers that are bothering her in this shot, will not be easy. Having been on set, Empire can testify to that.

Largely eschewing soundstages, director Paul W.S. Anderson has taken the franchise far beyond soundstages, promising a "super-gritty" aesthetic after the heavily stylised Resident Evil: Retribution. "It's a more location-driven picture," he tells Empire. "It gives this movie a reality that some of the others have lacked."

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be on our screens on 24 February, 2017. Pick up the new Empire – onsale in newsagents from here to Raccoon City on Thursday – for more from the set. Head here, meanwhile, for a fun and fulsome preview of the issue.
