He’s part of the cast for Divergent and his blockbuster mettle will be tested with The Fantastic Four, but** **Miles Teller is sticking with the indie world for a new potential role, entering talks to star in The Only Living Boy In New York for Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb.

Taking its title from the Simon and Garfunkel song, the coming-of-age plot finds a young man learning that his oppressive father is having an affair. But when he tries to shut down the romance, he falls for the woman involved. Cue further familial dysfunction but also a chance for a learning experience thanks to some wise words from an odd neighbour.

The film has sat in development for years like an unwanted shelter puppy, with at least one director (Seth Gordon) taking a look before moving on to other possibilities. Webb himself has been attached to the script draft by Allan Loeb for a couple of years, putting it aside to focus on the** Amazing Spider**-sequel. Now, with time to spare before his next superhero commitment, he’s been weighing options between this and a drama called The Gifted. Teller’s commitment means The Only Living Boy may finally get its shot.

Teller’s much-lauded drumming drama Whiplash, which co-stars J.K. Simmons as a Machiavellian jazz band conductor, arrives here on January 16. He’ll also be seen in Divergent sequel Insurgent, due March 20. Then The Fantastic Four will finally arrive on August 6.
