Mick Jagger wasn’t the focus of backing singers documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, but he was featured in plenty of the interviews. Now he wants to do even more with the subject, spearheading a TV series following present-day examples of those who warble behind the stars, and a Broadway show adaptation featuring some of the stars of the original film.

The documentary, which premiered at last year’s Sundance (and screened here during the London Film Festival) has been a huge success across the pond, becoming the highest-grossing non-fiction title of 2013 and earning an Oscar nomination.

There’s clearly a demand for more, something that Jagger, producing partner Victoria Pearman and the film’s director, Morgan Neville, want to capitalise on. The TV show will look at some of the singers working in the shadows of today’s biggest stars, while the Broadway version wants to transplant some of the classic singers, including Darlene Love and Lisa Fischer, to the stage. Since many of them have theatrical experience, that shouldn’t be a big problem. 20 Feet From Stardom is set to arrive here on March 28.
