She's been busy of late, appearing in films such as Crazy Rich Asians and bringing some enjoyable snark to Star Trek: Discovery. Michelle Yeoh has scored an even bigger job, landing a role in the Avatar sequels.

20th Century Fox has announced that she'll play Dr. Karina Mogue, described as a key role and a scientist. "Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters," says Avatar overlord James Cameron. "I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels."

While a lot about the new movies is still wrapped in secrecy, we do know it'll follow the continuing story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), as they and their children deal with threats from the human world and the Na'vi.

Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis and David Thewlis are among the new faces joining the movie series, while Giovanni Ribisi, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will reprise their roles. With the performance capture section of filming for at least Avatar 2 now complete, Cameron and his crew have been moving on to the live-action portion, which is where Yeoh's character will feature.

Avatar 2 is scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas on 18 December next year.
