Michelle Williams Is An Island Girl

Shutter Island – the new Martin Scorsese flick that has been assembling a kick-ass and entirely male cast up to now – has just added its first major female part (stop snickering at the back). And that female part (stop it!) will be filled (c’mon, people! I’m trying to work here!) by…

Michelle Williams.

The former Dawson’s Creek star – who is so far ahead of James Van Der Beek (DTV movies), Joshua Jackson (erm… same thing, probably) and Katie Holmes (we hear she got married, settled down, had a kid) in the post-Creek credible career stakes that it’s not even funny – has signed on to play the wife of Teddy Daniels, a US Marshal played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Teddy, along with his partner, goes to Shutter Island, just off the coast of Boston, to investigate the escape of murderess Rachel Solando from the island’s mental institution. But they soon get hemmed in by an approaching hurricane, while Teddy – engulfed by grief about the recent death of his wife – begins to fall apart at the seams. And no wonder – the man who killed his wife is a patient at the mental institution…

So, will Williams appear in flashbacks only? Who knows. But it’s another solid addition to a quality cast that already includes DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Sir Ben Kingsley. Filming starts soon.
