Long seen as a joke about the wild and wacky (and often physical law-defying) set pieces of the Fast & Furious franchise, the idea that Vin Diesel's Dom and the crew would go to space finally appears to be coming true. Interviewed on Jess Cagle's radio show on Sirius XM across the pond, Michelle Rodriguez appeared to confirm plans for the Fast gang to achieve escape velocity.

Oh, no way! How did you guys find that out? Damn! See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man," Rodriguez said in the interview, which you can find lower down the page. "When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out. Nobody was supposed to know that."

Rodriguez' Letty, however, appears not to be headed into orbit, but she did lay out some small steps/giant leaps the movie intends to make in other way. "Oh, well, no, I’m not lucky enough to hit space, but we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one. Thanks to [director] Justin Lin. We were able to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that shows through in the final product."

Fast & Furious 9 was famously one of the bigger titles to be delayed as the worldwide pandemic started to bite – shifting from a planned May release to 2 April next year. While the first trailer for the movie showed off all sorts of twists and turns, there's no mention of space adventures, so we'll wait and see if the next promo tips its hat (or helmet) in that direction.
