He's just completed the main shooting stint of Alita: Battle Angel, but Robert Rodriguez isn't finished revealing things about the movie. The latest? The fact that Michelle Rodriguez has a small role in it.
With Rodriguez directing and James Cameron producing, the film adapts Yukito Kishiro's original manga. Battle Angel Alita, as it was called in print and anime form, is the story of an amnesiac female cyborg in the 26th century who becomes a bounty hunter, after being rescued from the rubbish dump and rebuilt by a professor of cybernetics. Rosa Salazar is playing Alita, while Christoph Waltz will be the professor.
Rodriguez, who has popped up in the Machete films for the director, will here be seen as Gelda, a cyborg warrior who in the manga was an ally of Alita. She'll need all the help she can get given the villainy of Jackie Earle Haley, Ed Skrein and Mahershala Ali.
Alita: Battle Angel is out on 20 July next year. Rodriguez will be back as Letty in Fast & Furious 8, which arrives on 14 April.
