As he pushes his latest directorial job – The Coup – closer towards shooting, John Erick Dowdle has been slowly gathering a cast. Owen Wilson was the first to sign on, marking a return to more serious fare for the actor, and now he has a wife in the shape of Michelle Monaghan.
The pair will be the heads of a family who finds themselves suddenly caught up in a violent coup in a Southeast Asian country and must find some way to survive as rebel forces begin to assault the city they call home.
But they won’t be completely alone, as Pierce Brosnan is also aboard, playing a government operative who agrees to help them.
Dowdle wrote the script with his brother, Drew, and the plan is to kick off filming this coming October, once a few more cast members have been rounded up.
Monaghan was last seen in Machine Gun Preacher, plus a small – spoiler alert! – cameo in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. She’ll next appear in such films as Tomorrow You’re Gone, Penthouse North and Gus. She’s currently at work on** Better Living Through Chemistry**.
