Michel Gondry To Direct With His Son

Usually the news of a director helming a project with their child would be immediately followed by five minutes of mopping vomit off your shoes. But Michel Gondry is not most directors. He's mad, but almost always in a good way.

The director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and 'can't wait to see' Be Kind Rewind has told MTV that he is planning an animation project with his son. We believe he just has the one child, 16-year-old Paul, but can't find absolute confirmation.

“It’s going to be quite amazing," Gondry said. "We’re translating our relationship into a futuristic story with a dictator and a rebel. He’s the dictator in the story [and] it will be based on [his] art.”

Gondry hasn't said what kind of animation this will be. He's used Lego for the White Stripes music video 'Fell In Love With A Girl' and wool for Steriogram's 'Walkie Talkie Man'. Pick up the DVD of The Work of Director Michel Gondry if you want to see how genius he can be. So, it would be a little surprising if he went for simple ink and paint, or – horrors! – a computer.

So, in summary: Father/son projects without Gondry = bad. Father/son projects with Gondry = intriguing.
