We’ve had two big announcements already, with Paul Rudd and just yesterday, Michael Douglas confirmed for Edgar Wright’s **Ant-Man. Now another potential casting nugget has surfaced to continue the Ant-Mania, with The Wrap reporting that Michael Pena has apparently been offered a role.
Exactly what Pena will be doing if he signs on is still not clear: Marvel denied the report that Pena was even in negotiations, but if a deal is yet to be hammered out that may not be definitive.
If he does join up, Pena would be working alongside Douglas and Rudd, who are playing Hank Pym and Scott Lang respectively, two different inhabitants of the Ant-Man suit. Pym is the one who legitimately discovers the particles that let him shrink to insect size, manipulate ants and also grow to become a giant when needed. Lang will be the modern-day hero, a reformed thief who wrangles his way into getting the equipment and teams up with Pym later on.
Wright is set to start shooting the film this year ready for an August 14, 2015 release in the UK (and a July 31 date in the US). Pena is getting set to shoot Broadchurch remake Gracepoint and will be seen alongside Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf in David Ayer’s untitled war movie, which used to be called Fury. That one is scheduled to arrive on October 24.
