After spending few months playing the ponies (well, executive producing and directing the pilot of HBO’s new horse racing drama Luck), Michael Mann is switching his attention back to likely film projects, entering talks to develop The Big Stone Grid for Sony.
S. Craig Zahler wrote the script, which the studio picked up as a spec last year. The story follows two hardened detectives who uncover a wide-ranging extortion ring that stretches across the underbelly of New York.
According to Deadline, it’s in the vein of Seven and Marathon Man and Mann will apparently work with Zahler to tweak the story to his liking. Given his history with crime thrillers such as Heat and Collateral, this is one we’ll be watching closely, a keeping our fingers crossed it makes it through to the screen.
But Grid won’t be Mann’s next film, as he’s got several other projects sitting waiting for his attention. Prime amongst them at the moment is Go Like Hell, the true tale of the racing rivalry between Ford and Ferrari in the 1960s.
