Since Sin City, Michael Madsen has been going through a bit of a rough patch, film quality-wise. His brief voice appearance in Narnia doesn’t count and he’s been more known for his clunkers (BloodRayne) than anything else.
And he’s also preparing to step into the boxing ring for Mark Mahon’s indie sports drama Strength And Honour. He’ll play a pugilist named Sean Kellegher, who hangs up his gloves as a promise to his dying wife when he kills a mate in a boxing match.
But then things get even more tragic and Kellegher’s son is diagnosed with his late mother’s condition and the boxer must step back into the ring so he can earn enough to get his kid the necessary treatment. With vicious fighter Smasher O’Driscoll – Vinnie Jones, no doubt calling on his days as a foot-brawler – just waiting to punch his lights out, Kellegher will need all the help he can get from his coach (Richard Chamberlain).
The film will start shooting in county Cork next month.
