With the cameras cranking, you would think Aaron Sorkin might have found all the cast he needs to fill out the ensemble for The Trial Of The Chicago 7. And yet, here come two new announcements – albeit exciting ones, as Michael Keaton and William Hurt are boarding the based-on-truth drama.
Sorkin - who will direct from his own script – is shooting the story of the infamous 1969 trial of seven men charged by the American federal government with conspiracy and inciting to riot, a result of the counterculture protests in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The trial transfixed the nation and sparked a conversation intended to undermine the government.
Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Strong, Frank Langella, Mark Rylance, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are already in the cast, with Keaton on to play Ramsey Clark (the judge who oversaw the trial) and Hurt as John Mitchell, who was Attorney General at the time.
The film has an initial US release date set for 25 September next year, but there's no sign yet of a UK date.
