Looking to launch a Bourne or Jack Ryan-style franchise, American Assassin adapts the none-more-'Murican Mitch Rapp novels, penned by Vince Flynn. The latest trailer for the movie, starring Dylan O'Brien, is below.

Stephen Schiff's script adapts Flynn's 2010 tome, which spins the clock back to Rapp's (O'Brien) early days at the CIA. Actually, even before that: he's discovered after the woman he loves is killed during a terrorist attack. Sworn to destroy the people responsible, he's recruited by the agency, which thinks it can channel his tendencies into becoming a killer for the government.

The focus of this new trailer is the man tasked with honing and shaping Rapp's raw ability into that government-sanctioned human weapon: Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton), who trains the recruits and spots something special in the new arrival. But one of his previous bright stars has turned very dark, and it'll be up to both Rapp and Hurley to stop them.

Director Michael Cuesta marshals the action here, with Sanaa Lathan and Taylor Kitsch also in the cast. American Assassin will be out on 15 September.
