Sometimes, they come back. In April, it was reported that Michael Keaton had entered initial talks to play a crucial villainous role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. But he didn't sign on then. Now, however, it seems he's once again in the running and Deadline reports that he's closing a deal to co-star.
So it's good news if you were hoping that the former Batman and Birdman might change his mind. Sony and Marvel have yet to make the official announcement about him, but most reports say he's playing the Vulture, part of Spidey's extensive rogue's gallery. And if other rumours are to be believed, he won't be alone in causing trouble for the web-slinger...
Spider-Man: Homecoming will eschew the usual origin story, but will keep Tom Holland's Peter Parker a school student dealing with a life that includes teenage drama as well as stopping villains. Cop Car director Jon Watts is calling the shots, with John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein on script duty. Robert Downey Jr. is playing Tony Stark, news that is even more welcome given his easy chemistry with Holland in Captain America: Civil War. Marisa Tomei is once more Aunt May, with Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier as Peter's schoolmates and singer/actress Zendaya in an unknown capacity.
This latest Spider-stand-alone is still set for release on July 7 next year.
