Frak yes! After becoming big fans of growly Canadian thesp Michael Hogan as the take-no-crap, drink-too-much badass Colonel Tigh in Battlestar Galactica, we were concerned he’d live out the rest of his career in rubbish TV movies or small parts in claptrap like the Keanu-fied The Day The Earth Stood Still. But he’s just joined the cast of Catherine Hardwicke’s **Red Riding Hood.
The Wrap reports that Hogan has signed up to the supernatural thriller, which gives a new spin on the classic fairytale. Our heroine (played here by Amanda Seyfried) lives in a village haunted by a hungry werewolf. She (Red, not the wolf) is engaged to be married to Jeremy Irons but instead falls for a hunky orphaned woodcutter (Shiloh Fernandez). Can she stay alive long enough to be with her true love and avoid her family’s displeasure?
While Hogan’s role isn’t specified, we do know that he’s playing a mystery man known as The Reeve. He’ll keep those gods-damned kids in line.
Julie Christie and Gary Oldman are also in the cast for the movie, which features a script by David Leslie Johnson. Hardwicke has been scouting locations in Vancouver ready for a shoot set to start next month.
**Red Riding Hood **should arrive in our cinemas next year. It already has a US release date of April 22 set, so expect it either on the same day or shortly afterwards.
