Though it’s almost hard to imagine a** Jurassic Park** film without John Williams composing all the music, that’s exactly the situation we had with Jurassic Park III, where Don Davis stepped in. For Jurassic World, director Colin Trevorrow has hired a more natural successor to Williams’ mantle, in Michael Giacchino{ =nofollow}.

The composer who has made us laugh, cry and thrill for the likes of Up, The Incredibles, Star Trek, Super 8 and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is clearly delighted to score the gig, given that he began his big screen obsession making short dino films when he was nine. According to the statement on his hiring picked up by The Hollywood Reporter, Giacchino says it’s “an incredible opportunity to bring full circle the journey of dinosaurs and film that started in my backyard over 30 years ago.”

It’s not even Giacchino's first time working in the Jurassic world: he crafted the music for the Lost World video game, one of the first console titles to feature an original orchestral score. Trevorrow, for his part, appears eager to make something that is both respectful of what Williams created while forging new paths through the tropical scenery: “While this new score will honour the indelible work of John Williams, our mission is the same as the film itself – to create something bold and new for people who love dinosaurs.”

Jurassic World is now shooting, with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Judy Greer, Vince D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, Irrfan Khan, Nick Robinson and BD Wong in a tale that picks up the dino-story years after the original adventures. It’s set to hit our screens on June 12 next year.

And if you’re craving more Giacchino musical goodness, his work will be featured in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (July 17), **Jupiter Ascending **(July 25) and Shawn Levy’s This Is Where I Leave You, which has yet to secure a UK release date.
