Michael Biehn and his Blanc Biehn production company have been connected to a remake of the Chilean horror Hidden In The Woods for a few months, but the project is now coming together and specific details are starting to emerge. Biehn himself will be starring, and he'll be joined by William Forsythe, along with Electra Avellan, Jeannine Kaspar, MMA fighter Krxysztof Soszynski and Jennifer "Mrs Biehn" Blanc. There's a poster too...

Hidden In The Woods

Wow... Corporal Hicks looks like he had a bad day.

The original Hidden In The Woods is a slice of reprehensible gonzo sleaze, involving two sisters, their monstrous inbred brother, and their brutally abusive father. When Dad is sent to jail, the kids live in secluded contentment, turning to cannibalism whenever the opprtunity arises, as one does. But then their uncle and his drug cartel buddies turn up looking for their missing gear, and then Dad comes back...

It's massively violent and what you might call "full-on". While it seemed to get a reasonable reception from the audience at last year's FrightFest screening (people clapped, at least), the immediate online aftermath was absolutely poisonous: it was one of a number of FrightFest films in August 2012 that led Empire's Kim Newman to publicly decry "RapeFest."

Whether the film will be much reigned in for the remake remains to be seen, but seems unlikely, since original director Patricio Valladares is back to do it all again. You might wonder why Biehn would want to play a role as revolting as the father in this, but he's been re-styling himself as something of a grindhouse producer recently. He partnered with his Divide director Xavier Gens on a proposed three-film deal beginning with The Farm, and has around half a dozen other Blanc Biehn horror joints in the works.

Forsythe, playing the new Hidden In The Woods' uncle role, is also no stranger to down 'n' dirty horror, having turned out for Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects and Halloween, amongst others (hell, he was pretty damn scary in Out For Justice). Avellan, meanwhile, is in Planet Terror and both Machete films, making her own grindhouse CV pretty impeccable.

Hidden In The Woods is currently in pre-production, with shooting, presumably, getting underway shortly. Check out the trailer for the original below.
