Though this could have been predicted given their close, fruitful working relationship on Fruitvale Station and Creed, it wasn't a given. Still, we're happy to report that Michael B. Jordan is now in talks to reunite with director Ryan Coogler for Marvel's Black Panther.
Coogler, who is writing the script with Joe Robert Cole, already has Chadwick Boseman (introduced in Captain America: Civil War) in place as T'Challa, AKA the Black Panther, warrior ruler of Wakanda. And Lupita Nyong'o is nearing a deal to play another main character. As for Jordan, there is no official word on his role yet, but The Hollywood Reporter has heard that he could be a villain. And for trivia fans, it's interesting to note that this is the second time that someone who has played Johnny Storm in a Fantastic Four film has been recruited for the MCU, following in the footsteps of Chris Evans.
The story for the film also remains a mystery for now – will it fill in T'Challa's backstory, or continue his adventures in a post-Civil War world? There's always the chance it'll do both, but at the very least, Coogler is building a solid cast to portray it. The cameras will start rolling on this one early next year, with the film's release currently set for February 9, 2018 in the UK.
Jordan is developing a new version of The Thomas Crown Affair to star in, working alongside Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are acting as producers.
