It’s been at the development stage, strongly hinted, confirmed by director Barry Sonnenfeld and now it’s locking in: Men In Black 3, which will be shot in 3D, is set to arrive May 25, 2012.

According to Deadline, Sony is gearing up an announcement that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have locked in contracts to play Agents Jay and Kay, and franchise newcomer Josh Brolin is also in final negotiations to sign on as a younger version of Kay.

How does that work? The film will feature a time travel element that sends the story spiralling back to 1969, and Kay’s early days with aliens and the agency. David Koepp is now polishing Etan Cohen’s script and MIB crew regulars Rick Baker and Bo Welch are hard at work building creatures and sets respectively.

And some wet-behind-the-ears type with a beard with be executive producer. Spiel-something? Never heard of him.
