It would appear that it’s all change in front of the camera for the thriller Stoker – while Carey Mulligan was once attached to the lead, Mia Wasikowska is now in negotiations.
As for Jodie Foster, who was also said to be attached alongside Mulligan, it seems she’s gone too. Behind the camera, however, remains Park Chan-Wook, the man who made Oldboy and, more recently, Thirst.
Yet the most intriguing element of Stoker is the script – which was written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller under a pseudonym and picked up by Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free company.
Stoker follows an eccentric teen girl whose weird, estranged uncle returns to the family shortly after our heroine’s father dies. But almost as soon as he arrives, strange things start to happen.
Chan-Wook is making the film his English-language debut and Fox Searchlight is hoping it’ll turn into a hit. If it is successful, Miller has another script already in the bag – prequel pic Uncle Charlie, which explores an earlier chapter in the same odd family’s history, one that involves secrets, lies and murder…
