With Ice Cube enjoying big success with the likes of the Jump Street films and the more recent Ride Along, one of his older franchises is looking to reconnect like a distant Facebook page user endlessly hitting “Poke”. In this case, it’s MGM’s Barbershop, with the company looking to dust off the chairs for a third outing.
The original 2002 film, which found Cube as the South Side Chicago barber surrounded by friends, lovers and oddballs. It was successful enough to spawn not only a sequel in 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back In Business, but a spin-off in the Queen Latifah-centric Beauty Shop and a short-lived TV series.
Now, however, all involved are looking to get a new film out in the world, with Cube negotiating what is expected to be a hefty deal to once more star and produce. No plot details have been released – indeed, it’s not yet known who will write and/or direct the eventual film, but expect this one to be on our screens before too long.
