Mendes & More Reading For Total Recall

Following on from the news that Warner Bros. had a script that it liked for Akira and was out tracking down actors to play the leads comes word that Sony has launched its effort to find the two key female roles for its own sci-fi remake, Total Recall. Currently on the list? Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth, Paula Patton and more…

Like the 1990 Paul Verhoeven action thriller this is based on, the new Recall apparently features both the part of Lori (played in the original by Sharon Stone) and Melina (Rachel Ticotin). Lori, you may recall (no pun intended), was the leg-warmer sporting wife of Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who turns out to be a little crazier and more violent than our hero suspects. Melina, meanwhile, is one of the Resistance types trying to save poorer residents of Mars from the despotic planetary administration.

Mendes, who last appeared in the likes of The Other Guys and Bad Lieutenant, appears to be the woman that Sony’s really interested in, because she’s up for both potential parts. Kate Bosworth is also up for Lori.

As for Melina, the name that Deadline has heard besides Mendes is Paula Patton, with Jessica Biel and Eva Green also under consideration.

Whoever wins the roles will be sharing the screen with Colin Farrell, who has taken over the Quaid (or is it Hauser?) character. Len Wiseman is on to direct and if they really feel they have to make it, our only demand is that they hire Robert Picardo for a Johnnycab cameo…
