Mendes To Direct Eggers Comedy

Sam Mendes is set to direct a comedy based on a script by the rather marvellous Dave Eggers, Variety is reporting. You may know Dave Eggers as the writer of the terrific, but immodestly titled, book A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius or scripter of the much anticipated movie Where The Wild Things Are.

This film, which follows a newlywed couple travelling the US looking for an ideal location to raise their child, will be Mendes' first out-and-out comedy, although his previous films have had comedic elements. John Krasinski (Leatherheads) and Maya Rudolph* (Saturday Night Live) will play the travelling couple.

We've liked everything Mendes has done so far, though the office is split on Jarhead (those who dislike it are obviously wrong), so we're obviously we're very much looking forward to this. The set up could turn out either very broad or very subtle, but we're interested either way.
