One has been winning acclaim for playing a highland warrior and the other is about to be a superhero. But Outlander’s Sam Heughan and Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist are finding time to fall in love. On screen, at least, in **Oxford.
Featuring a script by Allison Burnett, the film follows an American Rhodes Scholar arriving at an Oxford college to continue her studies. There she meets an arrogant, grouchy teaching assistant (Heughan) who she leans is secretly fighting terminal cancer.
Upon learning of the reason for his daily attitude, she falls for him, and they decide to make the best of the days he has left, heading out to travel the world. Screen Gems is backing this one, though the company is looking to lock down a director before deciding when to start shooting. It’ll have to take the actors’ day jobs into consideration too, since Benoist is on a US network TV schedule for Supergirl while Heughan films Outlander according to the cable show’s own needs.
Benoist will also be seen in coming-of-age, street car-focused drama Low Riders and has also worked on Billy Boy. Heughan is part of the cast for indie pic When The Starlight Ends.
