The Passion Of The Christ

2004's The Passion Of The Christ became controversial for its violence and overtones of antisemitism. But it was also a massive success, earning $612 million worldwide. So it's perhaps not too surprising that director Mel Gibson and writer Randall Wallace might be considering a sequel.

The story this time would be a little more positive for Jesus, as it'll follow his resurrection. "I always wanted to tell this story," Wallace tells The Hollywood Reporter. "The Passion is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell." Presumably it will follow the more typical Biblical teachings and not this Family Guy effort{ =nofollow}.

Right now, it's still at an early stage, and Gibson hasn't officially confirmed whether he's involved. But he's previously said he's interested in the idea, and Wallace indicates it's bubbling away as a script with interest from financiers, but no studio attached yet. Still, given the growing marketplace for faith-based films, surely a new Gibson-driven Christ film would be welcomed by that audience.

Gibson and Wallace's latest collaboration, Hacksaw Ridge, will arrive in the US on November 4, but has yet to set a UK date.
