Take, well, Taken, a nod to Terminator 2 and a splash of early Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon and Mad Max in particular) and you’ve got this new trailer for Mel's new New Mexico-set thriller Blood Father. Take a look below.
Dad John Link (Gibson) and daughter (Erin Moriarty) combine after the latter’s methhead boyfriend (Diego Luna) has lured her into participating in a crime. From then on, all hell breaks loose. The latter’s situation is complicated by the fact that he’s out on parole, although his parole officer will have some work to do catching up with him on this evidence.
Gibson has been making a comeback on the other side of the camera, taking plaudits at the Venice Film Festival for his World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge, but this one offers his first chunky on screen role since 2012's How I Spent My Summer Vacation. His director on this one is Jean-François Richet, the man behind the terrific Mesrine.
It was originally due out in UK cinemas from 25 August but will now make its bow on 8 October.
