There has already been one film that successfully used the Groundhog Day-style time loop conceit this year, with horror comedy Happy Death Day mining a healthy profit from a low budget. Joe Carnahan has an action thriller take on the idea, and has cast Mel Gibson and old mucker/The Grey actor Frank Grillo in Boss Level.
Carnahan is gearing up to direct the movie next year, working from his own script. The story will see Grillo as Roy, a retired Special Forces soldier who is trapped in a never-ending loop that always ends with him dying. He'll have to figure out who is responsible for this situation and stop them if he's to survive.
That Carnahan is looking to work with Grillo again is not a surprise (the actor will also board the film as a producer) and Gibson's career is seemingly back on track after the likes of Hacksaw Ridge and this year's Daddy's Home 2.
