Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid have announced they are splitting up, after 12 years as a couple (and nine of those years as husband and wife). A publicist for the pair admitted that the separation was, "mutual and amicable". They met on the set of 1987's Innerspace and got together when they co-starred in 1988's D.O.A. Since then, Ryan's career has gone from strength to strength while Quaid, who was the more famous partner at the beginning, has languished in less successful movies. The couple have a son, Jack, who was born in 1992. The publicist did not have any information as to whether they plan to divorce. Ryan is currently shooting Proof Of Life, where she plays a woman who hires a hostage negotiator (played by Russell Crowe) to rescue her husband, but ends up falling in love with him instead. Crowe and Ryan have been seen out together in London at such trendy nightspots as the Met Bar and Momo.
