For ages now, we’ve all had to refer to the new Spider-Man film as Untitled Spider-Man Reboot or Marc Webb’s Spider-Man or Spider-Man: Based on the novel Push by Sapphire. Well, no longer! Now we we can all start calling it by its proper name, The Amazing Spider-Man.
Yes, the title isn’t a big shock, tying in with Spidey comic-book lore while at the same time being simple and, if anything, a bit generic. But then, who wants to mess with a hugely successful franchise? Except by, you know, completely taking it back to basics and re-starting with a new Peter Parker, director etc.
To announce the title, the studio shoved what it says is the first picture of Andrew Garfield in the full costume, though given that the mask covers his face, that could be anyone in there.
The design of the new mask, however, definitely ups the arachnid influence with those buggy yellow eyes and, for the first time, we get a closer look at both his gloves and web-shooters. Click on the pic in our gallery below to get a high-res version for you to peruse.
So the big question is: whaddya think? Approve? Loathe? We want to see it in action before we make a real judgement, but it’s certainly a change from the Raimi years.
The Amazing Spider-Man will arrive on July 3 next year with Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Sally Field and Martin Sheen among the cast.
