With the likes of hotly-contested filmmaking jobs such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies now taken, it would seem that directors are now fighting over what would otherwise be seen as the slightly less enticing bits of turkey left after everyone’s got the best cuts. Case in point? The adaptation of the board game Ouija, which has seen more than one director come and go and is now the subject of serious interest from both Terminator Salvation’s McG and The Crazies’ Breck Eisner.
All mockery aside, the project, which features a strictly-guarded script from the Tron Legacy team of Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz is a hot property, which The Hollywood Reporter has heard is a supernatural adventure take on the concept with elements of The Mummy and Indiana Jones (still sounds like it could be Jumanji with ghosts, but we’ll wait and see).
While it doesn’t appear to be attracting the Steven Spielbergs or the Michael Bays (though he’s producing it) of the world, the likes of Sylvain White, Pierre Morel, Scott Stewart and John Moore have all pitched their vision for the film and been turned down by Universal. Eisner got his chance a couple of weeks ago and McG went in on Friday, so we might have a decision after Christmas. Or we might have to wait a bit. The thing’s not due out until late 2012, so the executives can make a decision based on all sorts of statistical analysis. Translation: chuck a dart in someone’s name…
