Wes Ball's short film **Ruin **got the suits at Fox so excited that they've shelled out for the feature rights before Ball could even meet with another studio. Terminator: Salvation and This Means War director McG is now in talks to produce the full-blown Ruin film{
The original eight-minute incarnation of **Ruin **- which you can watch online at Vimeo - is an impressive extended chase sequence, set in an abandoned city where nature has taken over. It begins with a masked scavenger going about his or her daily business (vibes of Richard Stanley's Hardware here, for those that know it), before a security drone arrives, sparking an action-packed air-to-ground pursuit.
There's no plot as such - the film is basically an FX/CGI showreel which took Ball two years to produce - but there are hints of dark, dystopian corporate shenanigans in shots of buildings and tech belonging to one Haven Nanosystems.
Unsurprisingly, Ball has a background in graphics, and has worked for HBO and on DVD features for the likes of JJ Abrams' Star Trek. The planned Ruin feature, however, will be live-action. Ball is currently at work on the screenplay with TS Nowlin (who's also behind the developing Ruper Wyatt / Charlize Theron project Agent 13), and also intends to direct, under McG's watchful eye...
