Talk about sitting in the Hollywood waiting room: comedy concept This Means War has been waiting to get its shot at a schedule for 10 years at Fox, but suddenly it might be in luck: with Reese Witherspoon and Bradley Cooper apparently circling the project, director McG is now said to be interested in taking the reigns.
Okay, so “luck” depends on how you feel about McG switching gears from the likes of Terminator Salvation and trying his hand at something that, despite its title, should involve fewer pyrotechnics.
War, which was originally optioned as a Martin Lawrence vehicle (which is a good indication of its age) sees a woman (Witherspoon) who separately meets two blokes. The trouble starts when the pair – who are best friends – both decide that they’re going to date her. And begin to seriously compete for her affections. Comedy ahoy? Well, maybe…
McG hasn’t signed on yet, and we’re betting both Witherspoon and the currently hot Cooper can take their time and wrangle better paydays. So this one could still be waiting 10 years from now.
