After successfully launching a franchise with last year’s The Maze Runner, Wes Ball is back next month with follow-up The Scorch Trials. But he’s also looking towards his post-Maze future, and is attached to direct the adaptation of crowd-funded illustrated fantasy novel Fall Of Gods{ =nofollow}.

Created by Mood Studios in Denmark and funded by Kickstarter, the novel is set in a Norse-influenced realm where humans are in conflict with the jotnar. Our hero is Vali, who thought he’d found peace and a quiet life with his true love, but wakes up one day to find that she has been kidnapped. So he’ll have to take up his hatchet once again to rescue her, all the time worrying that he’ll give in to his more monstrous side and lose his soul in the process. And added to that, the old gods of the North’s mythological forces might not be quite as vanished as everyone thought. You can find more details on the book here.

Maze Runner studio 20th Century Fox picked up the rights to the tome, and sees value in keeping Ball around. As for when he’ll get to work on this new project will depend on whether he sticks with the Maze films beyond Scorch Trials. He told us back in March that he was still deciding if he wanted to direct the third in the series, and **Fall Of Gods **could be the change of scenery he needs.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials arrives here on September 10. And talking of, there’s an odd new video warning us all of Flare Awareness to tie-in with the movie’s sun-ravaged plot and landscape. Click below to check it out.
