Max Thieriot is a Prodigy.
Why did we capitalise that? Well, Thieriot is pretty young (he’s 19) and we’re sure he’s quite prodigious, but Prodigy’s the name of a film, you see. A film to be directed by Chuck Russell, for whom this will mark his first outing behind the camera since 2002’s The Scorpion King, and in which Theiriot will star.
A sci-fi, Prodigy will see Theiriot – who we last saw as a young Hayden Christensen in Jumper – star as a pupil at an exclusive boarding school that produces world leaders with the help of drugs. When he’s framed for the murder of several alumni just a couple of days before he graduates, Theiriot must team up with the school valedictorian to go on the run and expose a massive conspiracy.
Hmm… could be good. Could be The Skulls with a sci-fi bent. But we don’t mind Russell as a director – he’s charmingly unpretentious, and directed two of the best horrors of the 1980s, in The Blob and A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, so he gets a lifetime’s pass from us.
