And according to The Hollywood Reporter, that might just mean a reunion with Kingsman and X-Men: First Class studio Fox for the company’s new Flash Gordon film. The last time Flash approached our news radar, it was last month, with Sam Jones, star of the 1980 film, talking up the idea that this new movie will actually be a sequel to Mike Hodges’ effort. Nothing official has been released about the new project’s plot yet, so for now that must remain tapped in a rumour tree with the bore worms headed its way. What we do know is this: the story will once more be based on Alex Raymond’s space-going hero, and the current script is by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who wrote drafts of Star Trek 3 and crafted the Flash material from a treatment by producer George Nolfi. It’s likely Vaughn would want to take his own crack at the screenplay, possibly with regular collaborator Jane Goldman. Flash feels like something Vaughn could really do well – blending, should he so choose, the campier elements of the ‘80s film with his own sensibility. We’ll wait and see if the deal works out, because this isn’t the first time Flash has been headed back to our screens, only to tangle with the nightmares of development hell. Vaughn’s current gig is as a producer – he’s overseeing work on Eddie The Eagle and has a credit on Fantastic Four, which lands here on August 6.).
