Matthew Vaughn Finds The Golden Age

Though the shoot for X-Men: First Class is proving to be both long and arduous (it’s still going on, and the release date is May 30), it would seem that Matthew Vaughn isn’t quite ready to let go of the superhero habit. According to Deadline, he’s developing an adaptation of The Golden Age.

The title, created by Jonathan Ross and Tommy Lee Edward, is their follow-up to Turf and takes a Watchmen/Red-style approach to the subject matter, with retired heroes who live in a home coming back to duty to help out their grandchildren when their kids screw up the planet.

Vaughn is apparently in talks with one of the studios and has some executives close to opening up the corporate wallet to fund the film, which he’s already casting in his head with the likes of Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty. “You have these great star names and they’re mainly playing supporting roles now,” he says. “I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun.”

Still, thanks to his tiring stint on** First Class**, he may choose to step back and simply produce this one while handing it over for someone else to direct. And he hasn’t yet figured out whether Jane Goldman (his co-writer on Kick-Ass and the Marvel project, also somewhat well known as Mrs Jonathan Ross) will work on the script. She's pretty busy these days, but we bet she'd make room in her schedule if this comes together...
