With their regular on US TV drama The Americans now over, Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys are looking for more film gigs. While she's pondering Star Wars and a horror thriller, he's looking to co-star with Tom Hanks in You Are My Friend.

Hanks is playing US telly icon Fred Rogers, who charmed the country's children with his wisdom about navigating the world and treating the people in it fairly. This film, written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, will chronicle a particular chunk of Rogers' life and the effect he had on one person in particular: journalist Tom Junod (the role Rhys is in talks for). A cynical, award-winning writer, Junod begrudgingly agreed to write a profile on Rogers for Esquire, only to find his perspective on life changed by the encounter.

The Diary Of A Teenage Girl director Marielle Heller is overseeing the new film, which is looking to set itself up as a potential awards release, scheduling an October 2019 slot.

It'll also see a reunion for Rhys and Hanks, who worked together on The Post. Rhys will also be seen in Mowgli as one of the few human characters, with the movie due on 19 October.
